How to Pick a Temporary Agency

Article description: Temporary agency is an employment agency that finds workers to fill short-term temporary jobs. For instance, temps are regularly employed to work throughout seasonal increases in business or to cover vacations or sicknesses.

Jobs at temporary agencies can lead you to an excellent way to enhance your skills, acquire some experience in a new business and have some profits during in your in-between jobs. If you are not yet prepared to obligate to a permanent job or would want to get to recognize a new production from the inside out, by means of an agency to discover temporary occupations is a good answer.

A lot of temporary agencies have extended their role in the employment sector to fill “temporary to permanent” positions where they begin as a temporary job, however, could become permanent if the company opt to hire the applicant.

Temporary agencies provide temporary staffing that not only grant additional job skill training, but you don’t know at what time the boss you worked for one last day week will offer a genuine reference for the job you are interviewing for the next day. The trick is to find a temporary agency that fits for you.

Various temporary agencies concentrate in an exact type of job or industry. For instance, you are located in Dallas Texas; local web searches can tell you what kind of employees the agency is searching for.

Verify with your friends. You might already know someone who works for temporary agency. Inquire how frequently they have assignments, and if they are satisfied with the agency staff.

Recruiters of various temp agencies use advertisements and job fairs to recruit applicants. National firms might attract superior number of applicants due to the brand name, but large local firms are frequently evenly well recognized within their region such as Eli Daniel Group based in Allen Texas.

There are much greater dissimilarities, nevertheless, in how firms screen applicants before recruiting. If the agency needs a temporary with specific abilities, computer matches are usually enough, but personal interviews can help guarantee that employees are better suitable for certain needs. With this, you should be confident enough with the temporary agency you’ve chosen as they provide different ways to screen deserving employees, too.

This week’s ‘Does it Work?’ product takes us to the Eli Daniel Group in Allen. Employees there will put the Go Mini Steamer to the test.

“If it is a quick way to get looking sharp, I think it’ll be awesome,” said Chris Lawson of Eli Daniel.

After a quick read of the directions, we find that you can only use tap water in the steamer.

It’s supposed to take two minutes to heat up. We noticed some bubbling and steaming after only about a minute.

Employers address costs, benefits of social media in workplace

Claiming oneself as a "social media expert" can prove baseless at a time when five-minute attention spans and 7 year olds with iPhones dominate the culture, when the line between making necessary business connections and being off task is as fine as one mouse-click.

Social media -- and their undeniable influence on personal and professional realms -- are already a revolution. And one that's changing as quickly as a Facebook status or TweetDeck.

"CEOs know there is a major culture shift among us," Foster said. "It's always changing, and they're trying to keep up."

Growing tendency among Hispanic bilingual job Hispanic market work for 'customer' from home

By Jay Torres

Digital Special Star

BALCH SPRINGS - Technological advances in communication have created a trend of working from home that benefits many Hispanic entrepreneurs say that exploit these advances.

These advances in communication, which is becoming safer and cheaper-are attached to consumer dissatisfaction when companies use centers to receive or initiate calls in countries like India, Mexico and Costa Rica to serve its customers.

For some employees who work flexible hours and earn 10 to $ 14 per hour, this trend is the solution to transportation problems, time and the balance between family life and career.

"I love this job," says Adriana Lozano, who works through a computer placed in the living room of her apartment in Granada Corporation, a California based company that offers technical team and a six-week paid training for those who want to work a schedule flexibly from home.

"I can see when my daughter goes to school and I'm here when you return. Not just me but I feel better that she is happier to see his mom at home, "says Lozano.

Kit Cooper, president of Granada Corporation, says that the expenses that your company will save on rent and maintenance of the site, it hands in the form of bonus to employees.

Cooper hopes to occupy by the end of this month to 50 employees of the Metroplex to work from home and 200 more in 2013.

Cooper prefers that employees know about the Latino culture because this knowledge provides a better customer service.

"Our experience tells us that to provide better customer service and retain Latino market, you must have the support of employees who identify with the customer," says Cooper.

Granada Corporation provides customer service for electricity distribution companies and others. The service requires no telemercadería or sales, consumers initiate the call.

Lozano said that the salary is better with Granada Corporation compared to other companies known as "call centers", where hundreds of employees are gathered to receive or initiate calls.

"I save gas and travel time and I have to pack my lunch because I cook what I have in my kitchen," says Lozano.

Meanwhile Chris Lawson, president of Eli Daniel Group, an employment agency, says that the trend of working from home benefits Hispanics.

Lawson says he is optimistic about the future of Hispanics over jobs.

"I see a bright future for Latinos because demand for them will continue to increase, and much more for those who are bilingual and have knowledge of technology," says Lawson.

According to Lawson at least 15 percent of its customers require bilingual employees.

Lawson recommends that Latinos emphasize in your employment history that are bilingual.

"It's a skill that is in high demand but often I see hidden in small print," says Lawson.

Resume Inflation not going away

Résumé legitimacy moved to the forefront this week after Yahoo parted ways with CEO Scott Thompson after just four months on the job when it was revealed that his official biography included a college degree he never received.

The bio listed two degrees - in accounting and computer science - from Stonehill College, a small school near Boston. The revelation that Thompson never received a computer science degree raised questions about why the accomplishment had periodically appeared on his bio in the years he ran PayPal, an online payment service owned by eBay Inc.

Chris Lawson, president of the Texas-based Eli Daniel Group, a full-service staffing and recruiting firm that specializes in job placement, said résumé padding is prevalent in today's job workforce, especially among applicants who don't have a degree.

US employers add 80,000 jobs as economy struggles

Chris Lawson, Ceo, Eli Daniel Group

Chris Lawson featured on WTVN, Columbus, Ohio talks about the 2012 June job numbers and the effct on Small Businesses across the country.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- U.S. employers added only 80,000 jobs in June, a third straight month of weak hiring that shows the economy is still struggling three years after the recession ended. The unemployment rate was unchanged at 8.2 percent, the Labor Department said Friday. The economy added an average of just 75,000 jobs a month in the April-June quarter — one-third of the pace in the first quarter. For the first six months of 2012, employers added an average of 150,000 jobs a month. That's fewer than the 161,000 average for the first half of 2011. Weaker job creation has caused consumers to pull back on spending.

Chris Lawson Employment and Hiring ExpertChris Lawson, chief executive of the Eli Daniel Group, a Dallas-based staffing firm, said the jobs picture remains muddled. “We’re getting into this wait-and-see trap,” he said.

Lawson said that some employers are worried about what is going to happen in the presidential election, which will determine how the health-care law plays out.

“Small businesses are thinking about the new health-care landscape,”  Chris Lawson said. “They ask themselves, ‘Am I going to add staff or wait and see what shakes out with this election?’ On the data, there seems to be more negative news than positive. My guess is we’ll see unemployment remaining the same, or that number could go up a bit. I don’t see us all of a sudden starting to turn the corner.”

I went to the lobby to meet a candidate for an interview, and as I walked around the corner the candidate was picking at their toe nails“cleaning them out”. Very awkward moment as the candidate was really embarrassed. At the end of the interview I asked the candidate what they were looking for in a company, and
they replied “I am looking to have a manager that understands
there is more to life than just work and that although I am a hard worker and I am extremely dedicated I will from time to time need time off to take care of personal affairs”. I asked the candidate what that meant and they said their last manager expected them to be at work and never take time off and that they just don’t want to look back and say they only ever worked and never took time for themselves.

Retirees Going Back To Work

Next time you're asked "Would you like fries with that?" it may be from someone who just got his or her AARP card and not like someone who just got his or her driver's license. Battered retirement investments have led older workers to stay in, or re-enter, the workforce. And the situation has caused a shift in the average age of workers with the percentage of young people dropping to the lowest level since the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics started keeping track in 1948. Chris Lawson is a hiring expert and the President of the Eli Daniel Group.

Teen Jobs Being Taken over by Senior Citizens

Teen Jobs Being Taken over by Senior Citizens

If Junior cannot get a job, blame it on grandma.

Battered pension investment strategies have led mature workers to stay in, or re-enter, the job force. And the situation has triggered a switch in the average age of workers, with the amount of adolescents losing to the minimum level since the U.S. Institution of Work Research began maintaining monitor in 1948.

At this factor, the amount of individuals over 65 in the workers is at its maximum amount since 1965, with almost 2 thousand mature workers coming into since the start of the Excellent Economic downturn. There are now almost 7.7 thousand workers over 65, or 18.5 % of the workers. That is 2 thousand more than the teenager cohort of workers.

It's not just the youthful elderly people who are still kickboxing time. The number of workers over 75 has never been greater, with 7.8 % of that age team in the workers, nearly twice the amount from 1987, when the govt starting maintaining monitor. There are now 1.4 thousand individuals 75 and mature in the workers.

Dennis Jacobe, primary economist for Gallup Inc. in Northern Carolina, said his company has been monitoring the same styles and wanting to understand what exactly is going on.

"There are a couple of different factors," he said. "After the current and economic disaster, a lot of mature People in america lost their pension colony egg." Those workers never have time required to restore their investment strategies, so they have to go back to perform.

"Retirement, in a way, has modified," Jacobe said. "The old way was you preview deals, sit on the seaside and enjoy your pension."

Now more individuals are healthy later in lifestyle and able to perform, so their retirements are invested operating part-time tasks that leave

Should I bring my child to a job interview?

Staffing Firms could tell you a ton of funny testimonies about job interviews. Some of the most halarious testimonies have to do with a applicant's household. Some staffing firms have had youthful employees come in with a parent to haggle salary.

If you have youngsters, there may come a time period that you battle to find them a sitter when you need to go to a job interview. You may think it's necessary to take them to the interview because:
• You may not get the job if you reschedule.
• Perhaps, showing up with cute little ones will land you the job!

If you are inclined to bring your child to a job interview you may want to rethink the situation. Small children have no place in the workplace during an interview. Bringing your child to a job interview can not only create a diversion for you but for the hiring party as well. It can seem disorganized, unprofessional, reckless and disrepectful.

What if You Have No Choice?

It is possible that you have no option. You might discover that you cannot get a sitter. If this happens, contact the potential company instantly. In a non-panicky speech, let them know of the issue and ask the interview if they would like to reschedule. Most likely the interview will reschedule the Interview. Business employers comprehend the needs of a parent or gaurdian with a child. It is important not to sound frustrated or say you're sorry as though you are having difficulties dealing with the issue. Sound as professional and polished as possible, this can only help.

So we thought we would give you a sample of a funny interview that was brought to our attention.

So, Should I bring my child to a job interview?

Yahoo CEO's resume scandal -- -- When is lying okay?

Chris Lawson, CEO, Eli Daniel Group Featured in the Miami Herald.

Have you ever exaggerated just a little bit to put yourself in the best light possible?

Most of us do, particularly when it comes to our bios or resumes. We take what we've done and word it just so to make ourselves look as accomplished as possible. It's what we're told to do.

But resumes are tricky. Experts tell us it's okay to airbrush our photos, glamorize our accomplishments. Yet, we aren't supposed to cross the line into over-embellishment or take it a step further and add facts that aren't true.

That's where Yahoo CEO Scott Thompson went wrong. He just was fired as CEO after it was found he padded his resume with an embellished college degree, ending his term at the company after
just four months.

Yikes, Teen unemployment not getting any better but do teens really want to work?

http://www.elidaniel.com
Full Service Staffing and Recruiting

Texas staffing firm expert, Chris Lawson, President of Eli Daniel Group discusses the recent teen unemployment rate.

I’m Qualified, but Nobody Cares. What’s Wrong with My Resume?

One of the most the tedious tasks during a job search is creating a polished resume. You can spend countless hours trying to perfect it, but if you make these simple mistakes you can bet employers will not be burning up your phone. Kendra Lawson with Dallas based staffing firm, Eli Daniel Group, recently met with Ashley Roberts from DFW Close Up to discuss some essential pointers to create a stand out resume.
Mrs. Lawson, Eli Daniel Group’s Executive Vice President, explains some of the most common mistakes candidates make on their resume that can immediately eliminate them from the running in any position.
What you put down on paper others will read. Typos, spelling and grammar are one of the first things that can eliminate an applicant as a potential candidate. With the abundance of qualified resumes companies receive each day, one of the fastest ways to narrow down the stack is to discard the ones with spelling and grammatical errors. As stated by Mrs. Lawson, “About a 3rd of resumes that come across my desk have a spelling error, typo or grammatical error.” Candidates need to understand the vast importance of submitting an error free resume.
A potential employer will overlook your resume unless you follow these important guidelines.
First, make sure your resume is visually appealing. So what does that mean? You want an employer to read your resume not just toss it from the pile. Include a title, something that catches the eye of the person reviewing your resume, but also matches the position they are trying to fill. Your resume should not be too wordy or cumbersome. The last thing an employer wants is a twenty page resume when they have 100 more to sift through. This can make your resume less appealing or eliminate you as a candidate all together. A few simple tips are to have bullet points and appropriate breaks, so the more eye catching information stands out even with a quick glance.
Second, make sure you’re your resume is specific to your target position and audience. Don’t just make a general resume and throw it out there on a job board hoping to get a job offer or call. That’s not going to work these days. You have to do your research on the position and create a specific resume for it. Read thoroughly through the job description and use verbiage within your resume that correlates directly to the job you are seeking. The target audience will be much more drawn to this method.
Third, make sure you have a clear objective. General objectives such as, “I’m a software sales person, and I want to utilize my skills to improve my knowledge of software” just don’t cut it today. Plus, it’s really self-serving.  A company is not looking for someone who they can help to improve their knowledge, but rather looking for someone who can help the company improve their bottom line.  In today’s world, it’s all about what you have to offer that will benefit the company.
Finally, a summary of qualifications and accomplishments can go a long way. This is your place to shine whether you were the top sales person for the quarter, have won numerous awards, or some other achievements. There is a talented pool of candidates searching for a new job and having the right qualifications can move you to the top of the list. It’s always important to show a track record of your success and be proud of your accomplishments. You may have the best resume in the world in terms of experience, but doing a little bragging about yourself will make it even better. Take the time to make your resume sizzle, and that lets the person know you are the candidate they are looking to hire.
Creating a great resume can be tedious, so when you finish reviewing your work of art have friends look over your final draft. It’s always good to have an extra pair of eyes read through your resume and see if there are any errors you may have overlooked. You never know, you might just go from a qualified candidate that nobody cares about to an in demand candidate that everyone wants!

Social Media, WHAT IS IT?

"Social media" is a new term for one of the oldest of human activities: communication.

For individuals, the term is completely intuitive: connecting and sharing through online technologies. And when platforms like Facebook and MySpace were built, the Digital Natives (part of Gen X and all of Gen Y) strapped this latest craze to a rocket and blasted it into the popular culture stratosphere.

Teen Unemployment

Teen Unemployment

Economic Reports Fan Fears

Dimmer Jobs Picture and Sluggish Home Sales Cast Doubt on Recovery's Footing

Chris Lawson, who runs a Eli Daniel Group, staffing firm in the Dallas area, said business has been up in recent months as employers have finally gained the confidence to start hiring.

Recent signs of weakness in the jobs market haven't damped clients' enthusiasm, he said.

"It's a slow, gradual process, where we might have some steps forward and some steps back," Mr. Lawson said. "But the vibe and the pulse that I get is that companies are hiring."

More employers checking social media before hiring

TUCSON - Don't look now, but prospective employers are probably looking at your Facebook page. More and more companies are sifting through social media sites, looking for clues and information before they'll hire you.
In fact, some are even asking for Facebook user names and passwords to check you out. So it's time to put your best face forward.
Rebecca Lopez is preparing to graduate from the UA this spring. She's already searching for that first job. Rebecca's Facebook page is a piece of that puzzle.

Rebecca told us, "people are almost making it, like, another resume for themselves."
Rebecca said most college seniors are well aware that they have to come ac

"If an employer were to look me up on Facebook and say 'I want to check this girl out a little bit more,' they can see that I'm a serious person but I don't only have that serious side, I do like to have fun and hang out with my friends"ross as mature, yet well-rounded on their social media sites.
But human resource professionals say companies have to be careful sifting through social media so as not to misconstrue what they find. And to make sure they give equal weight to every candidate's information.
Chris Lawson of the Eli Daniel Group in Dallas said, "it actually opens up, unfortunately, a lot of opportunity for discrimination that otherwise wouldn't be, based on their resume and their skill set that would keep them from the interview."

He said companies may have to develop written policies on how they use social media in their interview process, just to keep that process fair and legal.
The News 4 Tucson Investigators received this statement from Facebook:
"We don't think employers should be asking prospective employees to provide their passwords because we don't think it's [the] right the thing to do. While we do not have any immediate plans to take legal action against any specific employers, we look forward to engaging with policy makers and other stakeholders, to help better safeguard the privacy of our users."

No Tebowing at Work!

Everyone has them, everyone knows them. The class clown, office prankster, and all around good guy that loves life and loves to have fun. Recently a friend of mine attended their annual charity golf event where a fellow employee decided to break out planking on stage during the raffle give-a-ways. The crowd responded with roars and cheers. So he exited the stairs coming off stage and bent down in all his glory and struck a TEBOW, also known as Tebowing. The crowd again applauded and he then took a bow. The night went off without a hitch and they had a wonderful event.

This is where the story perked my interest. My friend, Doug, told me that the following Monday office talk surrounded the wonderful golf tournament and John doing his famous planking and Tebow impersonation.  Late in the day Doug was about to head out when John walked by his office so he said, “John, strike a Tebow.”  Immediately, John drops to a knee in front of about 15 employees and Tebows. Doug chuckled while a few other employees smile with delight. Here is where the issue gets interesting. One of their colleagues walks by his office and says, “That’s so inappropriate in the work place.”  The next day, Doug and John are called into the boss’s office. They are told to refrain from making religious gestures or statements in the workplace, because someone felt like it was harassing toward their personal belief system!
This got me wondering what was so harassing about doing the Tebow at work. So much that I had to look up the law surrounding this incident.
I have no idea the religious makeup of the person who reported the gesture, but my friend Doug is a faithful and devoted Christian that only meant for John to do the gesture in good fun. Is it farfetched this actually made some type of negative impact upon the person that reported the gesture who felt they were being mocked or even harassed?
Under the law does the employer have the right to instruct the employees to refrain from making such a simple gesture in the workplace, and is this really considered harassment?  In my opinion I don’t find anything harassing, but only innocent fun.

Chris Lawson, President, Eli Daniel Group says "the employer has the power in most cases to enforce company policy rules that they believe would infringe upon freedom of speech.  You may get a “sit down” with HR for behavior that might be offensive or considered harassment by another employee. Ultimately, you will have to weigh the potential cost of further repercussion from your employer by doing things that might disrupt the unity in the workplace.  More often than not, the employer will choose to remove disruptions, especially if it impacts productivity and the bottom
dollar."

My advice, the next time you decide to break out Tebowing in the workplace you may want to think twice. You just might be offending the person next to you or even worse, harassing them!

More Women Get Tattoos (And Get Them Removed)

Dallas resident Karen Cunningham has a tribute to one of her favorite bands inked on her right arm. “It’s a little Beatles-inspired tattoo,” she said. “I love the art of it. I think it’s awesome.” The colorful depiction covers her upper arm, from her elbow to her shoulder, and it is not her only work of art.

Cunningham has six tattoos, and she isn’t done yet. “The first one was because I was 18 and I was allowed to,” she said with a laugh. “I wouldn’t mind getting another one on this arm.”
Cunningham is part of a growing number of women expressing themselves through body art. Lightspeed Research polled 1,000 people between the ages of 18 and 49. Nearly a third — or 29 percent — of those surveyed had a tattoo, and more than half of those sporting permanent ink are women. Of those surveyed who had a tattoo, 59 percent were women and 41 percent were men.

But at FemStart Medical Spa in Irving, women also outnumber men in getting tattoos removed. “That’s one of numerous things we do, is tattoo removal,” said Dr. Charles Powell, Chief Medical Director. “One of our first questions we’ve learned to ask is ‘When did you get it?’ Because a lot of times, it turns out, it was a mistake over the weekend and they want to get it taken off before mom and dad find out, or their husband, or somebody else finds out.”

Advancements in laser tattoo removal have made the process faster and less painful, and have reduced the amount of scarring, explained Powell. To completely remove a tattoo, it usually takes multiple sessions.
While tattoos are becoming more socially accepted, employment experts advise people on the job hunt to cover them up. In the professional world, sporting ink could spoil your chances of being hired, said Len Friedrichs, Executive Vice President of Dallas-based staffing agency Eli Daniel Group. “You don’t want to detract from your qualifications,” Friedrichs said, “and unfortunately, something like that does detract.”
But Cunningham, who works at a comedy club, isn’t too concerned. “I know plenty of people who have tattoos that are successful in their careers, and it doesn’t hold back on them,” she said. So, she will proudly show off her artwork — without any regrets.

keeping your job in a tough economy

Now is the time to take steps to keep your job. You can keep your job, even in a bad economy. But, start soon, not later, to take the steps necessary to keep your job.

Jay Himes, Executive Director of Student Services and Programming at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA, suggests you need to take a good look at yourself and your contributions. "Employees' work and accomplishments speak for themselves. Look at your organization; ask yourself, 'If I wanted to start a company that does what my firm does and I could take X number of people from here, who would I take?'

"If you aren't on the list, why not? There are two possible reasons.
•"The company doesn't need someone who does what you do. This is often the case for people who are far removed from the firm's customers, or whose job is primarily rooted in the bureaucracy. If your job is about building speed bumps and not about enablement, this is a warning sign.
•"You are not providing superior value. Is this a training or education issue? Is it commitment -- does your work day have work or procrastination in it? Is the issue that you have relational trouble with your coworkers?

"If you honestly evaluate yourself and move to correct the issues, there is still time. Your bosses and coworkers will notice improvement. If you wait until layoffs come it will be too late."

After you evaluate your contribution and prospects and assess the viability of your employer, you are ready to make decisions. In any case, if your current employer appears to be taking appropriate actions for these tough economic times, you will want to ensure that you keep your job -- for as long as you want your job.

In a recent poll, readers weighed in on their current strategy for keeping their job.

These ten steps will help you keep your job or help you prepare for a semi-predictable, but often unanticipated, job change.

Ten Steps to Help You Keep Your Job

•Be the Go-to, Indispensible Person Who Has Needed Organization Knowledge
•Make Your Contributions Measurable and Visible to the Right People
•Make Money for the Company: Contribute to Revenue Generation, Sales, Profit
•Ask for More Work and More Challenging Assignments
•Make Sure Your Manager Likes You; Invest Genuine Time, Compliments, Attention
•Be a Low Maintenance Employee: No Complaining, Whining or Monopolizing
•Work Long Hours and Make Sure the Right People Notice
•Keep Your Personal and Professional Skills Growing and Developing
•Team Build With Coworkers: Cooperate to Achieve Goals and Success for All
•Take Your Talents and Skills to a More Recession-proof Company or Job

Switch to a More Recession-proof Job or Career

Despite your best efforts - you've done everything recommended to keep your job - but maybe the job's not worth keeping. If the information you receive, when you scope your environment at work, leaves you concerned about job security, it may be time for a job search.

Or, maybe the company's prospects leave you open for a different conversation. You're one of the lucky employees in a job and on a career path still in demand. Or perhaps it's time to consider a different career since the economy is unlikely to improve quickly.

You may want to switch to a more recession-proof career or take your talents and skills to a more recession proof company.

But, in the meantime, before and while you pursue different career opportunities, focus on how to keep your job.

3 Reasons Not to Panic About the March Jobs Report

Job growth slipped significantly last month, but not all of the numbers are cause for worry (just yet)

Underwhelming, disappointing and mediocre. Call it what you will, but the 120,000 jobs added in March is indubitably not a reason to cheer. The figure came in well below expectations, not to mention well below the average of 246,000 jobs added in each of the previous three months.

Given the rocky recovery, it may be easy to see sputtering job growth as a reason to fear the worst. Here are a few reasons to fret a little less about the slowdown.

The Unemployment Rate Is Still Falling

No, not just the drop in headline unemployment, which fell from 8.3 percent to 8.2 percent from February to March. In fact, this decline, aside from being small, is also due in part to the labor force shrinking slightly to 154.7 million, a 164,000-person drop. That's because the unemployment rate is calculated as a percentage of the total labor force, not the total population.

More meaningful, however, may be the change in the U-6 unemployment rate, which takes into account the unemployed population, plus discouraged workers, people employed part-time for economic reasons, and other marginally attached workers--those who want a job and searched for one in the last 12 months, but are not currently in the labor force. This rate fell from 14.9 percent to 14.5 percent in March, a substantial drop. U-6 unemployment has come down considerably from its recent peak of 17.2 percent in October 2009. And another strong improvement now--even while the headline numbers disappoint--suggests that the labor market is still improving on a deeper level.

Sunscreen in February

In terms of raw, unadjusted jobs numbers, March normally sees a jump in job growth, as warmer weather makes for more hiring. But when the nation experiences one of its warmest winters on record, it can throw off the usual seasonal hiring pattern.

"The unusually warm winter likely shifted some hiring into the first two months of the year and wreaked havoc with the seasonal factor; therefore, the 212,000 average monthly gain recorded over the first three months of 2012 paint a more accurate picture of the labor market." says Sophia Koropeckyj, managing director at Moody's Analytics, in an analysis of the figures. "This is solid growth that will slowly absorb the unemployed and attract new workers into the labor market."

[See why wedding spending has declined.]

It's Just One Month

"While the report was disappointing, it is also a reminder that the data are extremely volatile," says Joel Naroff, president and chief economist at Naroff Economic Advisors, in a commentary on the figures. "Thus, we shouldn't obsess over any one monthly change, whether it is good or bad."

A longer trend of disappointing hiring would be much more worrisome, and that doesn't currently look likely. Various other indicators do not suggest a slipping recovery: jobless claims continue to decline and Americans have been spending more, which has certainly greased the wheels of the economy. Koropeckyj also points to solid consumer confidence, as well as a decline in planned layoffs.

"Weaker than expected March gains should not cause alarm since a number of other measures provide corroborating evidence of a slowly improving labor market," she says.
